The Fun Begins

Now it is official: The Liberal Government has been defeated and there will be an election in January. I’ve said before that I don’t think this is the right time for an election. I still believe that, and for the same reasons I gave then (we should wait for the final Gomery report, and an election will not significantly change that situation).

But here it is. And elections are great fun, especially ones where a few seats one way or the other can make a big difference in the final outcome. So I didn’t want it, but I’m going to enjoy it!

And I hope I’m wrong about the result. So, I predict the NDP will form the next Government, and it will be a majority. OK, a guy can have dreams, right?

Wow, 2 comments, very exciting.

I've been playing with the numbers from the last election, trying to find a logical way we get a good result. But, no matter what I do, I come up with the Liberals and NDP together a little under half (that is, no clear balance of power for the NDP). What I think this campaign will need to change the current standings in any significant way is a shakeup - a new issue, a major mistake by one of the leaders, etc. January 23 is a long way away, so maybe it'll happen...

I think the best possible

I think the best possible result is Liberal minority government backed by the NDP. We would get a more stable government, and the NDP would be able to influence the Liberals policies. This wouldn’t take much to do – a few more NDP seats is all it would take.

I'm up for another

I'm up for another opportunity to defeat Harper and send him looking for another job. Certain segments of the right and other "Reform Party" types, just can't seem to understand why Ontario(and other) voters keep returning Liberals to Ottawa.
Would you agree or disagree with this statement? "The centre is usually the determining factor in who wins elections these days. My sense is that many of these centrist voters just assume that Ottawa will always waste our tax dollars no matter who is in power. I take no joy in voting for these Liberals once in a while, as well as NDP. You know, we hold our noses as we vote(at least the ones who still take the time to do so). And since more voters see Harper and some of his dinosaurs as too extreme(look south of the border), we figure well, I can't risk Harper getting in, so here goes another ballot for anyone but Harper.
I do remember "Rae days" here in Ontario and the subsequent self-immolation of the provincial NDP government, but my vote so far has to be earmarked for Jack Layton(again). Minority NDP is not unlikely.
Any responses out there?
