The Harper government, in preparation for the Federal Budget, has engaged in what it is calling a consultation of Canadians. You can, until February 28, be so consulted here. If you do, you will find that what you can actually do is place, in an order of your choosing, the following priorities: debt, spending, personal tax, corporate tax, and other. Now, to be fair, you can later comment on these. But even if you do, you have helped the Harper Government say that "Canadians say that the top priorities of Canadians are debt, government spending, and personal & corporate tax levels." That is, there is no conceivable way that this "consultation" can provide anything other than the desired results. You can't prevent it - all you can do is not participate and reduce the number of consultations. But, those who do participate will provide the desired results no matter what. Nice trick, huh? And you thought the Liberals were slick... |

While spending the afternoon reading some material about the avian flu pandemic widely predicted to be imminent, I found the following story about the preference the virus has for those under 40. Finally, a good reason to be happy about being over 40. Oh, just barely over 40, mind you! |
