Politics and Public Issues
- Canadian politics. I support (and am a member of) the New Democratic Party (both federally and provincially).
- Politics more generally, especially human rights issues.
- Social issues of the sort you would expect given my political affiliation.
- Environmental issues.
- I prefer to get my news from the CBC and the Globe & Mail, though I'm making more and more use of online sources of news (The Real News Network is a great online source.
- I make purchases at unionized and community based businesses whenever I can.
- Political Compass: I score -8.50 on the Economic (Left/Right) scale and -7.59 on on the Social Libertarian/Authoritarian scale.
Other Interests
- Good science fiction - I don't read much of it these days, though.
- Documentary/information television - the Canadian Discovery Channel and similar stations. However, many of these types of channels have moved too much to entertainment programming.
- I've become addicted to the Daily Show and Colbert Report, though don't get my fix as often as I'd like.
- Music ranging from classic rock to folk, depending on my mood at any particular moment. Folk favourites include Tanglefoot, David Francey, Garnet Rogers & especially James Keelaghan. Most of the rock I listen to is made by bands I listened to 20 years ago.
- Red wine and Irish beer. All wine aspires to be red, and all beer aspires to be Irish!
- Coffee - I roast my own from green beans, and buy Fair Trade beans (nearly) all of the time.
- Baseball - Toronto Blue Jays.
